Business Sales Update – Planning for Success
Welcome to our regional update for Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough. Here’s the latest on what’s happening in the business sales market.
Nelson/Tasman – Why Preparation Pays Off (Rick Warren)
In the Nelson/Tasman region, good preparation makes all the difference when it comes to selling a business. Now we have entered into the new financial year, it's the perfect time to get ready for the market.
Up-to-date financials, a clear asset register, and a well-presented business all help to build buyer confidence and support stronger valuations. Planning ahead with staff, key clients, and marketing also helps ensure a smooth and successful transition.
At ABC, we’ve seen that businesses who prepare early attract better buyers, achieve higher prices, and sell faster.
Marlborough – Buyer Demand and the Value of Planning (Wladimir Ramsteijn)
In Marlborough, strong buyer demand continues—especially for grocery stores / small supermarkets, liquor stores, and petrol stations. However, listings in these categories remain limited.
We’re also seeing more small businesses coming to market unexpectedly, often without full preparation. Having strong financials and a clear sale plan makes a big difference to achieving the best outcome.
The winery sector also remains active, with buyers open to flexible deal structures including part-share sales, creating excellent opportunities for well-prepared vendors.
