The regional drift away from Auckland is maintaining its momentum and at the ABC regional offices, we continue to receive a high volume of Aucklanders inquiring about businesses and a new lifestyle outside of Auckland. The consistent theme is Aucklanders talking about a mortgage-free lifestyle and being in charge of their own destiny rather than hitched to the Auckland rat race.
Increasing interest rates are also providing further motivation for heavily mortgaged Aucklanders to re-assess their current financial and lifestyle situations.
A recent example involved a professional couple from Auckland (lawyer and banker) buying a manufacturing business in the lower North Island, the resulting move out of Auckland has provided them with a mortgage-free house and allowed them to purchase a business producing a net profit of $600k.
The end result is they now have a higher income and are no longer chained to a one-million-dollar mortgage.
