The latest SME Business Sales Quarterly Report has been released and the findings are interesting and some what surprising. The average business price has recorded an annual increase of 12% and yet business multiples have remained flat.
To date the increased interest rates are yet to have a material influence on business multiples in the private market. The volumes of completed business sales remained elevated in 2022 and recorded the 2nd highest level in history behind the bumper year of 2021.
Supply of new businesses coming market have remained steady and in line with historical levels, this is largely driven by an abundance of retiring business owners. The demand for businesses and level of enquiry for businesses has remained steady but below the record levels of 2021.
