I was in Taupo to see clients but had time to kill between appointments. As I drove through the familiar streets, I thought I’d call in and see an ex-Police colleague of mine that I hadn’t seen for years. We were in the Police together in the Taupo region for years, and when he retired from the force, he bought into A & T Glass & Glazing around 2005. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to catch up and reminisce about old times.
Little did I know that this casual visit would turn into a pivotal moment for both of us. When I called in to see him, I discovered that he had his business listed for sale with a rival brokerage for about a year and was on the verge of ending the contract to try a different company. It was a fortuitous coincidence that he didn’t know I was now a Business Broker. By a stroke of fate, we joined the dots and he decided to list his business with ABC Brokerage.
The vendor, affectionately known to everyone as Chainsaw, was looking to retire after nearly 20 years in the industry and business ownership. He had built an exceptional business and even owned the building where A & T Glass & Glazing was located, ensuring he was well set up for retirement.
Our marketing campaign generated a lot of interest and inquiries. Among the prospective buyers, a man from Nelson stood out. He expressed genuine interest and never wavered in his commitment. Eventually, he and his wife sold everything in Nelson and relocated to Taupo to take over A & T Glass & Glazing. Their passion and drive to elevate the business while valuing the loyal clients Chainsaw had built over the years were evident from the start.
