Bay Of Plenty

Known throughout New Zealand as a hot spot holiday destination, the Tauranga region, which incorporates Tauranga City, Mount Maunganui and Papamoa, is becoming increasingly popular as a place to live and set up business.

About the Location

A temperate climate, stunning beaches and easy access (say goodbye to motorway gridlock) to work, school and play make the Bay of Plenty a highly desirable place to live. However, there is much more than just sunshine for the region to boast about. The business boom that began in 2014 has continued to impress at a steady pace.

About the Business Environment

Tauranga is the fifth largest city in New Zealand. It is home to the country’s largest cargo ports and is one of the fastest growing regions in NZ.

Verified strong growth is the hallmark of this region. According to a recent Infometrics’ report:

Tauranga's economy grew by 3.6% over the year to March 2015, backing up a growth of 4.4% the previous year. This growth in economic activity is almost double the New Zealand average. Within the business and the jobs sector, the Bay leads the country in job growth with a demand for skilled trade workers. Further to this, Statistics NZ confirm that 350 companies started up or added new offices in Tauranga in 2014.

Construction is at a nine-year high. One of the major boosts to the region is the development of a $40m university campus. Another positive is a $591m injection of funds from the government for roads, including the Eastern bypass to Paengaroa which opened in August 2015.

Future development along this Eastern Corridor alone (including Papamoa East, Te Puke and Rangiuru) is expected to contribute approximately $8.5 billion to the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region economy.

The name Bay of Plenty has never been more appropriate.
